Canine and Feline Wellness Exams

Westlake Animal Hospital offers wellness visits for dogs and cats of all ages. Wellness visits are an important part of your pet’s health care regimen. They allow for the early detection of health care concerns; early detection provides more treatment options, often with less cost, and a better chance of a successful outcome.

What to Expect at Your Canine Wellness Visit

We recommend a wellness exam every six months for dogs over one year old. Your dog’s first adult exam will include a comprehensive physical exam to check your pet from nose to tail. Appropriate vaccines will be updated and parasite control and dietary needs will be discussed. Additional laboratory tests are also recommended, including internal parasite, urinalysis, heartworm, tick-borne disease, and young adult blood profile.

Canine Vaccinations

We will recommend appropriate protective vaccines based on AAHA guidelines and your pet's lifestyle. Certain vaccinations are required by law, such as rabies. Additional follow-up treatments and annual exams will include proper immunization boosters to increase the effectiveness and protection of your pet’s vaccination protocol. Our philosophy is to use an individually customized vaccination schedule that will minimize the number of vaccinations your pet receives in their lifetime while still offering the appropriate protection.

What to Expect at Your Cat’s Exam

Our facility has a designated wing that houses a feline lobby and exam rooms. This provides our feline patients with a less stressful environment. When you arrive, your pet will receive a physical exam, nutritional consultation, and a vaccination review, as well as early detection testing for intestinal parasites, urinalysis, adult blood profile, feline FIV, leukemia virus, and heartworm.

Feline Vaccinations

Your cat’s semi-annual exam will include a vaccination review. When necessary, boosters should be administered to ensure safe and effective protection against feline disease. Our common feline vaccinations include:

  • FVRCP vaccine
  • Rabies
  • Feline leukemia
