Westlake Animal Hospital understands the important role relationship plays in day to day living with your puppy.
Pawsitive Puppy Training Level I
The relationship you build with your puppy during the first year of their life will have a lasting effect on the relationship you have with them in the future. We are proud to offer Puppy Start Right Socialization and Foundational Training for puppies 8 to 14 weeks of age. This class is designed for puppies too young to visit parks and public places. Puppies in this age group are building antibodies to puppy viruses through the vaccination series and are staying parasite-free through a monthly deworming process. These puppies are in a critical socialization period of their life. Our Puppy Start Right program is lead by instructor Christine Walker.
This training package will help build a pawsitive relationship between you and your puppy, whether it is your first puppy or a new puppy you are introducing to your household.
Your puppy will learn how to socialize with other puppies their age while being introduced to new people, obstacles, appearances, and sounds.
In this class Christine will help you teach your puppy:
- Leave it
- Loose leash walking
Class discussion includes topics such as:
- Play biting/ chewing
- Counter surfing
- Crate training/potty training
- Independence training/separation anxiety
This five-week package includes the Puppy Start Right Book, training clicker, treat bag and five - one hour sessions
Pawsitive Puppy Training Level II
This class is an extension of the Puppy Start Right socialization and Foundational Training classes. It is designed for puppies aged 15 weeks to 6 months old. It is considered the “next step” in training. This class will help build clarity and consistency through mindful leadership. You will build better communication with your pup in a group setting. Puppies in this age group continue learning proper socialization with other puppies, people, and the environment. Puppies in the “ juvenile” stage of life often pose greater frustration while learning appropriate behavior in your household and in public places. This is also an age where owners may become frustrated by new behaviors their puppy demonstrates while learning the boundaries and rules of the house.
Training topics include:
- Introduction to “place”
- Off - continued work
- Down - continued work
- Sit - continued work
- Handling and grooming
Pawsitive Companion Dog Training
Christine also offers limited, individual sessions for your puppy or young dog ages 8 weeks to 1 year of age. Individual sessions are tailored to fit your needs regarding training issues that require a little help or refinement. In some cases, training sessions can be added to your pup's boarding schedule.
