Westlake Animal Hospital in Austin, Texas provides comprehensive veterinary care for your pet. We have designed the animal clinic to provide wellness care and to assist your pet in the event of illness or trauma. Our advanced medical setting includes diagnostic and surgical care to rapidly diagnose and treat your pet.

Veterinary Diagnostic Equipment

We strive to identify the underlying cause of your pet’s illness, and our veterinary clinic has the latest in diagnostic equipment, such as:

  • Digital pet X-ray: Quickly and safely provides clear, two-dimensional, stationary images of your pet’s bones, joints, and organs
  • Pet ultrasound: A non-invasive, real-time, moving picture of your pet’s abdomen, chest, and/or heart
  • Electrocardiograms (ECG): A non-invasive monitoring of your pet’s heart rhythm and function
  • Fluoroscopy: A real-time, moving X-ray image used for diagnosing internal structures. We commonly use Fluoroscopy to identify collapsing airways and to assist in minimally invasive orthopedic procedures.
  • Tonometry: Used to gauge eye pressure, which can be used to identify glaucoma
  • Blood Pressure: Used to identify circulatory deficits or hypertension. Also used for monitoring while under anesthesia.

Onsite Veterinary Diagnostics Laboratory

Diagnostic laboratory testing is a valuable tool for understanding your pet’s wellness. Our onsite veterinary diagnostic lab allows our veterinary team to quickly and accurately identify health concerns in your pet. We recommend laboratory testing during a wellness visit to provide baseline information, which is useful if your pet becomes ill. Early detection and treatment of health problems is the best way to keep your pet’s condition from developing into a large concern that may be difficult and costly to treat. Common laboratory tests we perform include:

  • Blood chemistry panel: Used to evaluate organ function, electrolyte status, hormone levels, and more
  • Complete blood count: Gives us information on hydration status, anemia, infection, clotting ability, and the ability of the immune system to respond to disease
  • Fecal examination: Check for harmful internal parasites
  • Heartworm test: A blood test that checks for deadly heartworm parasites and tests for tick borne diseases
  • Urinalysis: Checks the condition of the urinary and genital tracts and screens for conditions such as diabetes, liver disease, and Cushing’s disease
  • Coagulation Profile: a procedure to test your pet's ability to clot blood
  • Cytology: Used to identify ear infections, skin infections, and lumps identified in a physical examination
